What Gospel Did Jesus Proclaim

WHAT GOSPEL DID JESUS PROCLAIM AND TEACH?

I have been attending church since childhood and am now 66 years old. I have always been taught and understood the Gospel or Good News of the Bible to be that Jesus came to give his life to save us, so that we might have eternal life. Everyone I have talked to about the Gospel believed the same thing.

I was shaken to the core of my being to learn that is not what Jesus taught! Jesus had an active ministry of about 3 ½ years that He spent traveling and teaching about the Gospel, but He did not teach about His death, burial and resurrection at all! It was not till he was just weeks from crucifixion that He explained about His upcoming ordeal in detail to His Disciples. The following verses in Luke are written about Jesus, near the end of His earthly ministry, on the way to Jerusalem where he would lay down his life for us.

Luke 18:31-34

31 Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. 32 He will be handed over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him, spit on him, flog him and kill him. 33 On the third day he will rise again.”

34 The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.

NIV

It is clear that the disciples knew nothing about what was going to happen to Jesus, in fact the meaning was hidden from them. So while they traveled with and learned from Jesus for 3 years and in fact they were sent out to preach/teach The Gospel on their own but they had no understanding of what was going to happen to Jesus. It is obvious they were not teaching/preaching about the Good News of Jesus’ death and resurrection what Good News were they preaching about?

Matt 4:23-24

Jesus was going all over Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom(reign), and healing every disease and sickness among the people.

Mark 1:14-15

Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom(reign) of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom(reign) of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

Luke 4:43-44

43 but He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom(reign) of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.”  44 And He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.

Luke 9:60

60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom(reign) of God.”

Jesus said that He was sent to preach the gospel or good news about the Kingdom(reign) of God. Jesus instructed others to go preach about the Kingdom(reign) of God. In my religious life I don’t recall any sermons proclaiming that Jesus spent His teaching ministry teaching about or proclaiming that He was sent to proclaim the Gospel of the Kingdom(reign) of God or Kingdom(reign) of Heaven.  It seems to me that the focus of most if not all messages I have heard, has been on accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior, which is profoundly important, but little or no teaching about the Kingdom(reign), which must also be profoundly important since Jesus said in Luke 4:43 that He was sent for that purpose !

What is the Kingdom of Heaven or Kingdom of God?

The following is quoted from Holman Bible Dictionary, Kingdom of God

“ God’s kingly rule or sovereignty. The Old Testament contains no references to the kingdom of God. However, in the Old Testament God is spoken of as ruling (for example, Psalm 47:2 ; Psalm 103:19 ; Daniel 4:17 ,Daniel 4:17,4:25-37 ). The Old Testament emphasis on God’s sovereign power over all kings and kingdoms sets the stage for the New Testament teaching. Jesus made the kingdom of God central in His preaching. More than a hundred references to the kingdom appear in the Gospels, many in Jesus’ parables.

The kingdom of God was the central image in Jesus’ preaching as clearly seen in Mark 1:14-15 , a summary of the preaching of Jesus. The kingdom of God is the heart of the summary.

In His parables Jesus spoke of the kingdom in many different ways. He said that the kingdom is like a farmer (Matthew 13:24 ), a seed (Matthew 13:31 ), a yeast (Matthew 13:33 ), a treasure (Matthew 13:44 ), a pearl merchant (Matthew 13:45 ), a fishnet (Matthew 13:47 ), an employer (Matthew 20:1 ), a king inviting people to a marriage feast (Matthew 22:2 ), and ten young women (Matthew 25:1 ). He spoke also of the glad tidings of the kingdom (Luke 8:1 ) and of the mystery of the kingdom of God (Mark 4:11 ).

Jesus spoke Aramaic; the Gospel writers translated Jesus’ sermons and parables into Greek. Mark, Luke, and John translated Jesus’ words as “kingdom of God.” Matthew sometimes used this phrase too, but often he preferred to translate Jesus’ Aramaic words as “kingdom of heaven.” The two phrases mean exactly the same thing, because they are translations of the same Aramaic words of Jesus.

What did Jesus mean when he spoke of the kingdom of God? He meant, quite simply, the rule of God. The kingdom of God is the reign of God.

This is best understood if it is distinguished from what Jesus did not mean. He was not speaking of a geographical area such as the Holy Land or the Temple. He was not speaking of a political entity such as the nation of Israel or the Sanhedrin. He was not speaking of a group of people such as His disciples or the church.

Rather, the kingdom of God is God’s ruling. It is the sovereign reign of God. This rule is independent of all geographical areas or political entities. It is true that the rule of God implies a people to be ruled, and Jesus called upon people to enter the kingdom. The kingdom itself should be distinguished from the people who enter it.

How important is the Kingdom(reign) of God?

How important did Jesus think the Kingdom(reign) was/is? How important is it to those He taught? How should we think of the Kingdom(reign) and how should we respond?

The (reign) is priceless and worth everything to have!

Matt. 13:44,45

44 The Parables of the Hidden Treasure and of the Priceless Pearl

“The kingdom(reign) of heaven is like treasure, buried in a field that a man found and reburied. Then in his joy he goes and sells everything he has and buys that field

45 “Again, the kingdom(reign) of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. 46 When he found one priceless pearl, he went and sold everything he had, and bought it.

We are to pray for the God’s (reign) to come!

Luke 11:2

2 So He said to them, “When you pray, say:

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom(reign) come. Your will be done

We are to seek God’s(reign) & righteousness before all else!

Matt 6:33-34 33 But seek first the kingdom(reign) of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.  34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

The Kingdom(reign) is so important that we can inherit eternal life!

Matt 25:34-35

34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom(reign) prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Matt 19:28-29

29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.  NIV

It is so valuable that all in the Kingdom will rejoice when we are saved!

Luke15

15:1 The Parable of the Lost Sheep

All the tax collectors and sinners were approaching to listen to Him. 2 And the Pharisees and scribes were complaining, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them!”

3 So He told them this parable: 4 “What man among you, who has 100 sheep and loses one of them, does not leave the 99 in the open field and go after the lost one until he finds it? 5 When he has found it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders, 6 and coming home, he calls his friends and neighbors together, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my lost sheep!’ 7 I tell you, in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 righteous people who don’t need repentance.

8 The Parable of the Lost Coin

“Or what woman who has 10 silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? 9 When she finds it, she calls her women friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found the silver coin I lost!’ 10 I tell you, in the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels over one sinner who repents.”

So important that it must be preached in all the world!

Matt 24:14

14 And this gospel of the kingdom(reign)  will be preached in all of the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. NKJV

It seems quite clear to me that Jesus said very plainly the kingdom(reign)  of God is THE most important goal we can pursue. In fact Jesus said nothing else in our lives is as important. How are we then to enter the Kingdom?

How do we enter the Kingdom?

It was God’s plan to send His son  to proclaim the Kingdom of God by sowing His word in the world so many would believe and be saved.

John 3:16-19

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.  18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. NKJV

John 3:35-36

35 The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. 36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” NKJV

John 5:24-25

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.    NKJV

John 6:40

40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”  NKJV

Luke 8:5-15

5 “A sower went out to sow his seed. As he was sowing, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the sky ate it up. 6 Other seed fell on the rock; when it sprang up, it withered, since it lacked moisture. 7 Other seed fell among thorns; the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. 8 Still other seed fell on good ground; when it sprang up, it produced a crop: 100 times what was sown.” As He said this, He called out, “Anyone who has ears to hear should listen!”

9 Then His disciples asked Him, “What does this parable mean?” 10 So He said, “The secrets of the kingdom(reign)  of God have been given for you to know, but to the rest it is in parables, so that Looking they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.

11 The Parable of the Sower Explained

“This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. 12 The seeds along the path are those who have heard. Then the Devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 And the seeds(word of God) on the rock are those who, when they hear, welcome the word with joy. Having no root, these believe for a while and depart in a time of testing. 14 As for the seed(word of God) that fell among thorns, these are the ones who, when they have heard, go on their way and are choked with worries, riches, and pleasures of life, and produce no mature fruit. 15 But the seed(word of God) in the good ground — these are the ones who, having heard the word with an honest and good heart, hold on to it and by enduring, bear fruit.

John 12:44-50

44 Then Jesus cried out, “When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. 45 When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. 46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

47 “As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. 48 There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day. 49 For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. 50 I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.”  NIV

Matt 4:17

17 From then on, Jesus began to preach, “Turn from your sins and turn to God, because the Kingdom(reign)  of Heaven is near.”  NLT

Jesus is the way by which we enter the Kingdom(reign)

John 10:9

9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will come in and go out and find pasture.

John 5:39,40

39 “You search the Scriptures because you believe they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me!  40 Yet you refuse to come to me so that I can give you this eternal life.  NLT

John 10:9-10

9 Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved . Wherever they go, they will find green pastures.  10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all its fullness. NLT

Matt 7:13-14

13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. NIV

Rom 10:9-10

9 For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. NLT

Phil 3:9-11

I no longer count on my own goodness or my ability to obey God’s law, but I trust Christ to save me. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith. 10 As a result, I can really know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I can learn what it means to suffer with him, sharing in his death, 11 so that, somehow, I can experience the resurrection from the dead! NLT

John 4:41-42

41 And because of his words many more became believers. 42 They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.” NIV

Acts 8:12-13

12 But when they believed Philip, as he proclaimed the good news about the kingdom(reign) of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.

We must repent, believe and have faith in Him

Mark 1:14-15

Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom(reign)  of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”  NKJV

James 1:21

21 Therefore, ridding yourselves of all moral filth and evil excess, humbly receive the implanted word, which is able to save you.

Luke 7:50

50 And Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”  NLT

We must believe, repent and OBEY what God tells us to!

Matt 21:28-32

28 “But what do you think? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘My son, go, work in the vineyard today.’ 29 “He answered, ‘I don’t want to!’ Yet later he changed his mind and went. 30 Then the man went to the other and said the same thing. “‘I will, sir,’ he answered. But he didn’t go. 31 “Which of the two did his father’s will?”

“The first,” they said.

Jesus said to them, “I assure you: Tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you! 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you didn’t believe him. Tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him, but you, when you saw it, didn’t even change your minds then and believe him.

Matt 7:21

21.”Not everyone who says to Me,’Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.   NKJV

James 1:21-22

21 So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the message God has planted in your hearts, for it is strong enough to save your souls

22 And remember, it is a message to obey, not just to listen to. If you don’t obey, you are only fooling yourself.  NLT

Matt 7:21-27

21 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom(reign)  of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”  NIV

Mark 16:15-16

15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved , but whoever does not believe will be condemned.   NIV

Be converted then be humble & trust and obey as a child!

Matt 18:1-6

At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom(reign)  of heaven?”

2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom(reign)  of heaven(God).  4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom(reign)  of heaven(God).  5 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.    NKJV

Luke 18:15-17

15 Some people were even bringing infants to Him so He might touch them, but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 16 Jesus, however, invited them: “Let the little children come to Me, and don’t stop them, because the kingdom(reign)  of God belongs to such as these. 17 I assure you: Whoever does not welcome the kingdom(reign)  of God like a little child will never enter it.”

Wealth and Worldliness can choke out the seed of God’s Kingdom(reign)!

Luke 18:24,25

24 Seeing that he became sad, Jesus said, “How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom (reign) of God! 25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom(reign)  of God.”

Luke 8:14

14 As for the seed that fell among thorns, these are the ones who, when they have heard, go on their way and are choked with worries, riches, and pleasures of life, and produce no mature fruit

1 John 2:15-17

15 Stop loving this evil world and all that it offers you, for when you love the world, you show that you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only the lust for physical pleasure, the lust for everything we see, and pride in our possessions. These are not from the Father. They are from this evil world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything it craves. But if you do the will of God, you will live forever.  NLT

1 Cor 6:9-11

9 Do you not know that the unjust will not inherit God’s kingdom ? Do not be deceived: no sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals, 10 thieves, greedy people, drunkards, revilers, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom . 11 Some of you were like this; but you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

1 Cor 15:50-51

Brothers, I tell you this: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, and corruption cannot inherit incorruption.

Gal 5:19-21

19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious:  sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, 21 envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar, about which I tell you in advance — as I told you before — that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God

Eph 5:5

5 For know and recognize this: no sexually immoral or impure or greedy person, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of the Messiah and of God

We must endure/finish the course

Luke 8:15

15 But the seed in the good ground — these are the ones who, having heard the word with an honest and good heart, hold on to it and by enduring, bear fruit.

Matt 10:21-22

22 All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved NIV

1 Cor 9:24

24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.  NIV

Gal 5:7-8

7 You were running a good race . Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth? NIV

2 Tim 4:7-8

7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race , I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day — and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. NIV

Heb 12:1-3

12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. NIV

What is the Kingdom like?

Matt 13:24-52

Story of the Wheat and Weeds

24 Here is another story Jesus told: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field.  25 But that night as everyone slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat.  26 When the crop began to grow and produce grain, the weeds also grew.  27 The farmer’s servants came and told him, ‘Sir, the field where you planted that good seed is full of weeds!’

28 ” ‘An enemy has done it!’ the farmer exclaimed.

” ‘Shall we pull out the weeds?’ they asked.

29 “He replied, ‘No, you’ll hurt the wheat if you do.  30 Let both grow together until the harvest. Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds and burn them and to put the wheat in the barn.’ “

Illustration of the Mustard Seed

31 Here is another illustration Jesus used: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field.  32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants and grows into a tree where birds can come and find shelter in its branches.”

Illustration of the Yeast

33 Jesus also used this illustration: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like yeast used by a woman making bread. Even though she used a large amount of flour, the yeast permeated every part of the dough.”

34 Jesus always used stories and illustrations like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, he never spoke to them without using such parables. 35 This fulfilled the prophecy that said,

“I will speak to you in parables.I will explain mysteries hidden since the creation of the world.”

The Wheat and Weeds Explained

36 Then, leaving the crowds outside, Jesus went into the house. His disciples said, “Please explain the story of the weeds in the field.”

37 “All right,” he said. “I, the Son of Man, am the farmer who plants the good seed.  38 The field is the world, and the good seed represents the people of the Kingdom. The weeds are the people who belong to the evil one.  39 The enemy who planted the weeds among the wheat is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the world, and the harvesters are the angels.

40 “Just as the weeds are separated out and burned, so it will be at the end of the world.  41 I, the Son of Man, will send my angels, and they will remove from my Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil,  42 and they will throw them into the furnace and burn them. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.  43 Then the godly will shine like the sun in their Father’s Kingdom. Anyone who is willing to hear should listen and understand!

Illustration of the Hidden Treasure

44 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field — and to get the treasure, too!

Illustration of the Pearl Merchant

45 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a pearl merchant on the lookout for choice pearls.  46 When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!

Illustration of the Fishing Net

47 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a fishing net that is thrown into the water and gathers fish of every kind.  48 When the net is full, they drag it up onto the shore, sit down, sort the good fish into crates, and throw the bad ones away.  49 That is the way it will be at the end of the world. The angels will come and separate the wicked people from the godly,  50 throwing the wicked into the fire. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.  51 Do you understand?”

“Yes,” they said, “we do.”

52 Then he added, “Every teacher of religious law who has become a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a person who brings out of the storehouse the new teachings as well as the old.”NLT

Matt 18:21-35

Story of the Unforgiving Debtor

21 Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?”

22 “No!” Jesus replied, “seventy times seven!

23 “For this reason, the Kingdom of Heaven can be compared to a king who decided to bring his accounts up to date with servants who had borrowed money from him.  24 In the process, one of his debtors was brought in who owed him millions of dollars.   25 He couldn’t pay, so the king ordered that he, his wife, his children, and everything he had be sold to pay the debt.  26 But the man fell down before the king and begged him, ‘Oh, sir, be patient with me, and I will pay it all.’  27 Then the king was filled with pity for him, and he released him and forgave his debt.

28 “But when the man left the king, he went to a fellow servant who owed him a few thousand dollars. He grabbed him by the throat and demanded instant payment.  29 His fellow servant fell down before him and begged for a little more time. ‘Be patient and I will pay it,’ he pleaded.  30 But his creditor wouldn’t wait. He had the man arrested and jailed until the debt could be paid in full.

31 “When some of the other servants saw this, they were very upset. They went to the king and told him what had happened.  32 Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said, ‘You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me.  33 Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?’  34 Then the angry king sent the man to prison until he had paid every penny.

35 “That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters in your heart.”  NLT

Matt 20:1-16

20:1 Story of the Vineyard Workers

“For the Kingdom of Heaven is like the owner of an estate who went out early one morning to hire workers for his vineyard.  2 He agreed to pay the normal daily wage and sent them out to work.

3 “At nine o’clock in the morning he was passing through the marketplace and saw some people standing around doing nothing.  4 So he hired them, telling them he would pay them whatever was right at the end of the day.  5 At noon and again around three o’clock he did the same thing.  6 At five o’clock that evening he was in town again and saw some more people standing around. He asked them, ‘Why haven’t you been working today?’

7 “They replied, ‘Because no one hired us.’

“The owner of the estate told them, ‘Then go on out and join the others in my vineyard.’

8 “That evening he told the foreman to call the workers in and pay them, beginning with the last workers first.  9 When those hired at five o’clock were paid, each received a full day’s wage.  10 When those hired earlier came to get their pay, they assumed they would receive more. But they, too, were paid a day’s wage.  11 When they received their pay, they protested,  12’Those people worked only one hour, and yet you’ve paid them just as much as you paid us who worked all day in the scorching heat.’

13 “He answered one of them, ‘Friend, I haven’t been unfair! Didn’t you agree to work all day for the usual wage?  14 Take it and go. I wanted to pay this last worker the same as you.  15 Is it against the law for me to do what I want with my money? Should you be angry because I am kind?’

16 “And so it is, that many who are first now will be last then; and those who are last now will be first then.”NLT

Matt 22:1-14

22:1 Story of the Great Feast

Jesus told them several other stories to illustrate the Kingdom. He said, 2 “The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a king who prepared a great wedding feast for his son.  3 Many guests were invited, and when the banquet was ready, he sent his servants to notify everyone that it was time to come. But they all refused!  4 So he sent other servants to tell them, ‘The feast has been prepared, and choice meats have been cooked. Everything is ready. Hurry!’  5 But the guests he had invited ignored them and went about their business, one to his farm, another to his store.  6 Others seized his messengers and treated them shamefully, even killing some of them.

7 “Then the king became furious. He sent out his army to destroy the murderers and burn their city.  8 And he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, and the guests I invited aren’t worthy of the honor.  9 Now go out to the street corners and invite everyone you see.’

10 “So the servants brought in everyone they could find, good and bad alike, and the banquet hall was filled with guests.  11 But when the king came in to meet the guests, he noticed a man who wasn’t wearing the proper clothes for a wedding.  12’Friend,’ he asked, ‘how is it that you are here without wedding clothes?’ And the man had no reply.  13 Then the king said to his aides, ‘Bind him hand and foot and throw him out into the outer darkness, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.’  14 For many are called, but few are chosen.” NLT

Matt 25:1-30

25:1 Story of the Ten Bridesmaids

“The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.  2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.  3 The five who were foolish took no oil for their lamps,  4 but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil.  5 When the bridegroom was delayed, they all lay down and slept.  6 At midnight they were roused by the shout, ‘Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and welcome him!’

7 “All the bridesmaids got up and prepared their lamps.  8 Then the five foolish ones asked the others, ‘Please give us some of your oil because our lamps are going out.’  9 But the others replied, ‘We don’t have enough for all of us. Go to a shop and buy some for yourselves.’

10 “But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked.  11 Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood outside, calling, ‘Sir, open the door for us!’  12 But he called back, ‘I don’t know you!’ 13 “So stay awake and be prepared, because you do not know the day or hour of my return.

Story of the Three Servants

14 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a trip. He called together his servants and gave them money to invest for him while he was gone.  15 He gave five bags of gold to one, two bags of gold to another, and one bag of gold to the last — dividing it in proportion to their abilities — and then left on his trip.  16 The servant who received the five bags of gold began immediately to invest the money and soon doubled it.  17 The servant with two bags of gold also went right to work and doubled the money.  18 But the servant who received the one bag of gold dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money for safekeeping.

19 “After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money.  20 The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of gold said, ‘Sir, you gave me five bags of gold to invest, and I have doubled the amount.’  21 The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’

22 “Next came the servant who had received the two bags of gold, with the report, ‘Sir, you gave me two bags of gold to invest, and I have doubled the amount.’  23 The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’

24 “Then the servant with the one bag of gold came and said, ‘Sir, I know you are a hard man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate.  25 I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth and here it is.’
26 “But the master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! You think I’m a hard man, do you, harvesting crops I didn’t plant and gathering crops I didn’t cultivate?  27 Well, you should at least have put my money into the bank so I could have some interest.  28 Take the money from this servant and give it to the one with the ten bags of gold.  29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who are unfaithful, even what little they have will be taken away.  30 Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’  NLT

How long can we wait to make a decision?

Luke 12:35-48

35 Ready for the Master’s Return

“Be ready for service and have your lamps lit. 36 You must be like people waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet so that when he comes and knocks, they can open the door for him at once. 37 Those slaves the master will find alert when he comes will be blessed. I assure you: He will get ready, have them recline at the table, then come and serve them. 38 If he comes in the middle of the night, or even near dawn, and finds them alert, those slaves are blessed. 39 But know this: if the homeowner had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. 40 You also be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.”

41 Rewards and Punishment

“Lord,” Peter asked, “are You telling this parable to us or to everyone?”

42 The Lord said: “Who then is the faithful and sensible manager his master will put in charge of his household servants to give them their allotted food at the proper time? 43 That slave whose master finds him working when he comes will be rewarded. 44 I tell you the truth: he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45 But if that slave says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and starts to beat the male and female slaves, and to eat and drink and get drunk, 46 that slave’s master will come on a day he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers. 47 And that slave who knew his master’s will and didn’t prepare himself or do it will be severely beaten. 48 But the one who did not know and did things deserving of blows will be beaten lightly. Much will be required of everyone who has been given much. And even more will be expected of the one who has been entrusted with more.

Luke 17:26-35

26 “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man: 27 people went on eating, drinking, marrying and giving in marriage until the day Noah boarded the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 It will be the same as it was in the days of Lot: people went on eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building. 29 But on the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 It will be like that on the day the Son of Man is revealed. 31 On that day, a man on the housetop, whose belongings are in the house, must not come down to get them. Likewise the man who is in the field must not turn back. 32 Remember Lot’s wife! 33 Whoever tries to make his life secure  will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. 34 I tell you, on that night two will be in one bed: one will be taken and the other will be left. 35 Two women will be grinding grain together: one will be taken and the other left.

Mark 13:32-37

32 No One Knows the Day or Hour

“Now concerning that day or hour no one knows — neither the angels in heaven nor the Son — except the Father. 33 Watch! Be alert! For you don’t know when the time is coming. 34 It is like a man on a journey, who left his house, gave authority to his slaves, gave each one his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to be alert. 35 Therefore be alert, since you don’t know when the master of the house is coming — whether in the evening or at midnight or at the crowing of the rooster or early in the morning. 36 Otherwise, he might come suddenly and find you sleeping. 37 And what I say to you, I say to everyone: Be alert!”

Mark 13:34-14:1

34 “The coming of the Son of Man can be compared with that of a man who left home to go on a trip. He gave each of his employees instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return.  35 So keep a sharp lookout! For you do not know when the homeowner will return — at evening, midnight, early dawn, or late daybreak.  36 Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning.  37 What I say to you I say to everyone: Watch for his return!”  NLT

Results of Not Pursuing the Kingdom

Matt 13:24-30 and 36-43

24 The Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds

He presented another parable to them: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while people were sleeping, his enemy came, sowed weeds among the wheat, and left. 26 When the plants sprouted and produced grain, then the weeds also appeared. 27 The landowner’s slaves came to him and said, ‘Master, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Then where did the weeds come from?’

28 “‘An enemy did this!’ he told them.

“‘So, do you want us to go and gather them up?’ the slaves asked him.

29 “‘No,’ he said. ‘When you gather up the weeds, you might also uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At harvest time I’ll tell the reapers: Gather the weeds first and tie them in bundles to burn them, but store the wheat in my barn.'”

36 Jesus Interprets the Wheat and the Weeds

Then He dismissed the crowds and went into the house. His disciples approached Him and said, “Explain the parable of the weeds in the field to us.”

37 He replied: “The One who sows the good seed is the Son of Man; 38 the field is the world; and the good seed — these are the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and 39 the enemy who sowed them is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. 40 Therefore just as the weeds are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather from His kingdom everything that causes sin and those guilty of lawlessness. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom. Anyone who has ears should listen!

47 The Parable of the Net

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a large net thrown into the sea. It collected every kind of fish, 48 and when it was full, they dragged it ashore, sat down, and gathered the good fish into containers, but threw out the worthless ones. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out, separate the evil people from the righteous, 50 and throw them into the blazing furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Luke 14:15-24

15 The Parable of the Large Banquet

When one of those who reclined at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, “The one who will eat bread in the kingdom of God is blessed!”

16 Then He told him: “A man was giving a large banquet and invited many. 17 At the time of the banquet, he sent his slave to tell those who were invited, ‘Come, because everything is now ready.’

18 “But without exception they all began to make excuses. The first one said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. I ask you to excuse me.’

19 “Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m going to try them out. I ask you to excuse me.’ 20 “And another said, ‘I just got married, and therefore I’m unable to come.’

21 “So the slave came back and reported these things to his master. Then in anger, the master of the house told his slave, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the city, and bring in here the poor, maimed, blind, and lame!’ 22 “‘Master,’ the slave said, ‘what you ordered has been done, and there’s still room.’

23 “Then the master told the slave, ‘Go out into the highways and lanes and make them come in, so that my house may be filled. 24 For I tell you, not one of those men who were invited will enjoy my banquet!'”

Who appreciates the Kingdom the most?

Luke 7:41-48

41 “A creditor had two debtors. One owed 500 denarii, and the other 50. 42 Since they could not pay it back, he graciously forgave them both. So, which of them will love him more?”

43 Simon answered, “I suppose the one he forgave more.”

“You have judged correctly,” He told him. 44 Turning to the woman, He said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she, with her tears, has washed My feet and wiped them with her hair. 45 You gave Me no kiss, but she hasn’t stopped kissing My feet since I came in. 46 You didn’t anoint My head with oil, but she has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. 47 Therefore I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; that’s why she loved much. But the one who is forgiven little, loves little.” 48 Then He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”

11 The Parable of the Lost Son

He also said: “A man had two sons. 12 The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate I have coming to me.’ So he distributed the assets to them. 13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered together all he had and traveled to a distant country, where he squandered his estate in foolish living. 14 After he had spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he had nothing. 15 Then he went to work for one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. 16 He longed to eat his fill from the carob pods the pigs were eating, but no one would give him any. 17 When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired hands have more than enough food, and here I am dying of hunger! 18 I’ll get up, go to my father, and say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. 19 I’m no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired hands.’ 20 So he got up and went to his father. But while the son was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him. 21 The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I’m no longer worthy to be called your son.’

22 “But the father told his slaves, ‘Quick! Bring out the best robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Then bring the fattened calf and slaughter it, and let’s celebrate with a feast, 24 because this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!’ So they began to celebrate.

25 “Now his older son was in the field; as he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he summoned one of the servants and asked what these things meant. 27’Your brother is here,’ he told him, ‘and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’

28 “Then he became angry and didn’t want to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him. 29 But he replied to his father, ‘Look, I have been slaving many years for you, and I have never disobeyed your orders, yet you never gave me a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your assets with prostitutes, you slaughtered the fattened calf for him.’

31 “‘Son,’ he said to him, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.'”

How will our lives look or not look as Christians?

Luke 6:46-49

“Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things I say? 47 I will show you what someone is like who comes to Me, hears My words, and acts on them: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the river crashed against that house and couldn’t shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears and does not act is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The river crashed against it, and immediately it collapsed. And the destruction of that house was great!”

Matt 18:23-35

23 For this reason, the kingdom of heaven can be compared to a king who wanted to settle accounts with his slaves. 24 When he began to settle accounts, one who owed 10,000 talents was brought before him. 25 Since he had no way to pay it back, his master commanded that he, his wife, his children, and everything he had be sold to pay the debt.

26 “At this, the slave fell facedown before him and said, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay you everything!’ 27 Then the master of that slave had compassion, released him, and forgave him the loan.

28 “But that slave went out and found one of his fellow slaves who owed him 100 denarii. He grabbed him, started choking him, and said, ‘Pay what you owe!’

29 “At this, his fellow slave fell down and began begging him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.’ 30 But he wasn’t willing. On the contrary, he went and threw him into prison until he could pay what was owed. 31 When the other slaves saw what had taken place, they were deeply distressed and went and reported to their master everything that had happened.

32 “Then, after he had summoned him, his master said to him, ‘You wicked slave! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. 33 Shouldn’t you also have had mercy on your fellow slave, as I had mercy on you?’ 34 And his master got angry and handed him over to the jailers until he could pay everything that was owed. 35 So My heavenly Father will also do to you if each of you does not forgive his brother from his heart.”

Luke 12:16-21

16 Then He told them a parable: “A rich man’s land was very productive. 17 He thought to himself, ‘What should I do, since I don’t have anywhere to store my crops? 18 I will do this,’ he said. ‘I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and store all my grain and my goods there. 19 Then I’ll say to myself, “You have many goods stored up for many years. Take it easy; eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.”‘

20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life is demanded of you. And the things you have prepared — whose will they be?’

21 “That’s how it is with the one who stores up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

Luke 10:30-37

30 Jesus took up the question and said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him, beat him up, and fled, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down that road. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 In the same way, a Levite, when he arrived at the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan on his journey came up to him, and when he saw the man, he had compassion. 34 He went over to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, ‘Take care of him. When I come back I’ll reimburse you for whatever extra you spend.’

36 “Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?”

37 “The one who showed mercy to him,” he said.

Then Jesus told him, “Go and do the same.”

Matt 25:31-46

31 The Son of Man Will Judge the Nations

“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.  32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.  33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.  34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:  35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;  36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?  38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You?  39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’  40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand,’Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:  42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink;  43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’

44 “Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’  45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’  46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Luke 14:7-14

7 Teachings on Humility

He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noticed how they would choose the best places for themselves: 8 “When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, don’t recline at the best place, because a more distinguished person than you may have been invited by your host. 9 The one who invited both of you may come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then in humiliation, you will proceed to take the lowest place.

10 “But when you are invited, go and recline in the lowest place, so that when the one who invited you comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ You will then be honored in the presence of all the other guests. 11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

12 He also said to the one who had invited Him, “When you give a lunch or a dinner, don’t invite your friends, your brothers, your relatives, or your rich neighbors, because they might invite you back, and you would be repaid. 13 On the contrary, when you host a banquet, invite those who are poor, maimed, lame, or blind. 14 And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Mark 4:21-25

21 Then Jesus asked them, “Would anyone light a lamp and then put it under a basket or under a bed to shut out the light? Of course not! A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light will shine.

22 “Everything that is now hidden or secret will eventually be brought to light.  23 Anyone who is willing to hear should listen and understand!  24 And be sure to pay attention to what you hear. The more you do this, the more you will understand — and even more, besides.  25 To those who are open to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But to those who are not listening, even what they have will be taken away from them.” NLT

Luke 6:39-42

39 Then Jesus gave the following illustration: “What good is it for one blind person to lead another? The first one will fall into a ditch and pull the other down also.  40 A student is not greater than the teacher. But the student who works hard will become like the teacher.

41 “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?  42 How can you think of saying, ‘Friend, let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log from your own eye; then perhaps you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.   NLT

The Tree and Its Fruit

43 “A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit.  44 A tree is identified by the kind of fruit it produces. Figs never grow on thornbushes or grapes on bramble bushes.  45 A good person produces good deeds from a good heart, and an evil person produces evil deeds from an evil heart. Whatever is in your heart determines what you say.    NLT

Matt 5:13-16

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.  15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.  16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.     NKJV

8 In the Lecture Hall of Tyrannus

Then he entered the synagogue and spoke boldly over a period of three months, engaging in discussion and trying to persuade them about the things related to the kingdom of God. 9 But when some became hardened and would not believe, slandering the Way in front of the crowd, he withdrew from them and met separately with the disciples, conducting discussions every day in the lecture hall of Tyrannus. 10 And this went on for two years, so that all the inhabitants of the province of Asia, both Jews and Greeks, heard the word of the Lord.

Then he stayed two whole years in his own rented house. And he welcomed all who visited him, 31 proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with full boldness and without hindrance.

Rom 14:16-18

Therefore, do not let your good be slandered, 17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

1 Cor 4:20-21

20 For the kingdom of God is not in talk but in power.

1 Cor 15:22-25

2 For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. 23 But each in his own order: Christ, the firstfruits; afterward, at His coming, the people of Christ. 24 Then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father, when He abolishes all rule and all authority and power.

Col 4:11-12

These alone of the circumcision are my co-workers for the kingdom of God, and they have been a comfort to me.

1 Thess 2:11-12

11 As you know, like a father with his own children, 12 we encouraged, comforted, and implored each one of you to walk worthy of God, who calls you into His own kingdom and glory

2 Thess 1:5-7

5 It is a clear evidence of God’s righteous judgment that you will be counted worthy of God’s kingdom , for which you also are suffering, 6 since it is righteous for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7 and to reward with rest you who are afflicted, along with us.

Heb 12:28-29

28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us hold on to grace. By it, we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe; 29 for our God is a consuming fire.

James 2:5-6

5 Listen, my dear brothers: Didn’t God choose the poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that He has promised to those who love Him?

Rev 5:9-10

9 They sang a new song:

“You are worthy to take the scroll and to break open its seals.

For you were killed, and by your sacrificial death you bought for God

people from every tribe, language, nation, and race.

10 You have made them a kingdom of priests to serve our God,

and they shall rule on earth.” TEV

Rev 11:15

The seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven saying:

The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom

of our Lord and of His Messiah,

and He will reign forever and ever!

Rev 12:10

10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:

The salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God

and the authority of His Messiah have now come,

Luke 11:5-13

5 Keep Asking, Searching, Knocking

He also said to them: “Suppose one of you has a friend and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, 6 because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I don’t have anything to offer him.’ 7 Then he will answer from inside and say, ‘Don’t bother me! The door is already locked, and my children and I have gone to bed. I can’t get up to give you anything.’ 8 I tell you, even though he won’t get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence, he will get up and give him as much as he needs.

9 “So I say to you, keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who searches finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 11 What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead of a fish? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?”

John 10:1-18

10:1 The Ideal Shepherd

“I assure you: Anyone who doesn’t enter the sheep pen by the door but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2 The one who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 The doorkeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought all his own outside, he goes ahead of them. The sheep follow him because they recognize his voice. 5 They will never follow a stranger; instead they will run away from him, because they don’t recognize the voice of strangers.”

6 Jesus gave them this illustration, but they did not understand what He was telling them.

7 So Jesus said again, “I assure you: I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn’t listen to them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will come in and go out and find pasture. 10 A thief comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come that they may have life and have it in abundance.

11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired man, since he is not the shepherd and doesn’t own the sheep, leaves them and runs away when he sees a wolf coming. The wolf then snatches and scatters them. 13 This happens because he is a hired man and doesn’t care about the sheep.

14 “I am the good shepherd. I know My own sheep, and they know Me, 15 as the Father knows Me, and I know the Father. I lay down My life for the sheep. 16 But I have other sheep that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will listen to My voice. Then there will be one flock, one shepherd. 17 This is why the Father loves Me, because I am laying down My life so I may take it up again. 18 No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down on My own. I have the right to lay it down, and I have the right to take it up again. I have received this command from My Father.”

Matt 7:15-20

15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

James 1:22-25

22 But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror; 24 for he looks at himself, goes away, and right away forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer who acts — this person will be blessed in what he does.

Jude 23

But you, dear friends, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, expecting the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ for eternal life. 22 Have mercy on some who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them from the fire; on others have mercy in fear, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.
